Robots promise a precision and accuracy in the OR that human hands cannot achieve. But even if they relieve the surgeon in many places, control ultimately remains with the human being.
In addition to greater precision – and thus patient safety – robotic interventions offer the advantage that they can often be minimally invasive, resulting in faster recovery and less scarring.
But robots today can help not only directly at the operating table. Assistance systems that support the entire surgical team in their work are now also being researched.
In our MEDICA DEEP DIVE on robotics in the OR from 31 August 2023, we talked to our experts about how robots are advancing work in the OR as partners to humans and where their limitations are.
