Injuries, operations or degenerative diseases require customized rehabilitation plans. However, many conventional rehabilitation devices quickly reach their limits. This is precisely where the Alex 7 Rehab System comes in. It was developed by the Kaunas University of Technology in Lithuania and the Lithuanian company InoSport, which specializes in sports and rehabilitation technology. Together, they have created a device that dynamically adapts to the patient's needs - in real time and supported by intelligent algorithms.

The system measures movement parameters such as strength, speed and distance and continuously analyzes them in order to adjust the load precisely to the patient's performance level.

Versatility in four modes: one system for all phases of rehabilitation

At the heart of the Alex 7 Rehab system are four different operating modes:

Rehabilitation mode: adapts exercises to injury type and phase
Training mode: focuses on targeted muscle building
Test mode: analyzes physical performance
Replay mode: allows you to review past exercises

This flexibility enables therapists to precisely control the entire rehabilitation process - from mobilization and muscle building to the return to competitive sport. This is supported by different types of resistance - from isotonic to isokinetic to adaptive.

Explanation of sports medicine terminology

Isotonic
Means that the muscle tension (force) remains the same during the movement, while the muscle length changes. Classic example: Dumbbell training with constant weight.
Isokinetic
Means that a movement is performed at a constant speed, whereby the resistance is variable - often used in rehabilitation equipment or performance tests.
Adaptive
Refers to training systems or equipment that adapt to the user, for example by automatically adjusting resistance, movement or feedback. Also used in AI-assisted training.

How data accelerates rehabilitation - even in elite sport

A total of 312 measurements were carried out on twelve test subjects as part of a series of tests. The results: Adaptive resistance adjustment enabled more efficient muscle activation across the entire range of motion. Muscle fatigue was reduced and recovery time shortened - while at the same time increasing safety.

This approach can be decisive, especially in top-class sport. After all, it's not just whether a return to resilience is possible, but how quickly. "The system allows for progressive overload with controlled resistance, preventing reinjury. Athletes can train specific joint angles and increase the load gradually, ensuring recovery without overstraining muscles," emphasizes Domeika.

The continuous data collection and real-time evaluation also allow detailed documentation of progress - a benefit not only for therapists, but also for insurance companies, trainers and the patients themselves.

Systematic future: integration, AI and new fields of application

The technology behind Alex 7 Rehab is being continuously developed - with the aim of integrating the system more closely into digital care structures. Plans include biomechanical feedback systems, AI-supported prognosis functions and interfaces to digital health technologies.

"Alex 7 Rehab is designed with future interoperability in mind. We are exploring collaborations with other digital health technologies to build a more integrated rehabilitation ecosystem," says Grigaliūnas.

The goal: a networked platform that combines movement detection, vital data analysis and individualized load control into a holistic therapy tool - both for everyday clinical practice and for advanced digital care concepts.
