The Khamsin endoscope cleaning system, developed by Aston University and PFE Medical, has now been rolled out across the entire University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust. After proving successful at Good Hope Hospital, the device is set to improve patient safety, reduce processing times, and save significant costs annually.

Full rollout across the NHS trust

Following 18 months of successful use at Good Hope Hospital, the Khamsin system has been adopted across the entire University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust, making it the first NHS Trust in the UK to implement it across all its hospitals:

Heartlands Hospital
Queen Elizabeth Hospital
Solihull Hospital

Benefits for costs and staff

The introduction of the Khamsin system is expected to save around £140,000 annually, with an estimated 140,000 endoscopy procedures performed each year.

Rob Hartley, Director of PFE Medical, commented:
