Hygiene and infection protection concept while holding MEDICA and COMPAMED trade fair 2020
(Version: 23 June 2020)
Messe Düsseldorf has drawn up a hygiene and infection protection concept on the basis of the current corona protection ordinance of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, in particular to ensure the necessary health precautions, hygiene measures and distance regulations at all upcoming events at the Düsseldorf venue. This includes both measures for personnel and space management as well as hygienic, technical and organisational measures that the state government has established for the operation of congresses and trade fairs.
Hygiene measures by Messe Düsseldorf on the exhibition grounds
Disinfectant dispensers Messe Düsseldorf has installed additional dispensers for disinfectants – at all entrances, halls and transitions between halls, to name but some locations. Additionally, all WCs are equipped with stationary disinfectant dispensers.
Mouth-nose-cover At trade fairs, the obligation to wear a mouth-nose-cover applies in principle (§ 2 para. 3 of the current Corona Protection Ordinance valid in NRW): • at trade fairs and congresses except at the seat • in enclosed spaces of catering establishments other than the seat • in queues in front of the aforementioned facilities Messe Düsseldorf will make them available in the entrances and on the exhibition grounds for persons without mouth-nose-cover.
Sanitary rooms • The cleaning and disinfection of WCs, handles, washbasins and water taps will be adapted to requirements • All hygiene measures for stationary facilities will be adapted
Door systems To avoid touch with door handles door systems will be kept open by wedges. An exception to this rule are fire protection doors equipped with electronic latches at the top of the doors.
Surface hygiene Cleaning and disinfection of generally accessible surfaces: • Counters at the Service-Center • Counters of cash desks • Counters of cloakrooms • Turnstiles • Parking ticket vending machines
Food service hygiene The trade fair restaurants will be opened by Messe Düsseldorf in accordance with the Corona protection ordinance. There is distinction made between indoor and outdoor seating. For detailed specifications see Annex 1of the Corona protection ordinance, food service, (indoor and outdoor food services).
Messe Düsseldorf will inform all guests, partners and employees about these hygiene and prevention tips on posters that will be displayed.
The official distance and hygiene regulations apply, and it is the responsibility of each individual to comply with them - as in the public and retail sectors (currently 1.5 m distance, hand hygiene, mouth-nose cover, cough and cold labels, and no shaking hands).
A meeting of several people on the exhibition grounds is only permitted if the group does not exceed ten people.
The ventilation systems in the halls will ensure a regular exchange of air. The quality of the newly introduced air will correspond to that of the outside air on the open-air grounds. The volume of air that is repeatedly exchanged in narrow time windows is many times greater than the actual demand generated by the operation. On our behalf, all system components are regularly checked by independent inspectors to ensure that they are in perfect hygienic condition.
In addition to this, the stand construction and the type of presentation of walk-in exhibits are adapted as far as possible. Meeting rooms or basements of multi-storey stand constructions should only be erected and operated when open. For accessible exhibits, there is a requirement to keep doors, windows and roof hatches permanently open in order to integrate them into the air exchange cycle of the halls.
In addition to the ventilation and air-conditioning systems, we use the natural air flow through the halls by opening access doors and skylights to increase the air exchange rate, if necessary. Visitors help to reduce the risk of infection by aerosols in the exhibits they visit by wearing mouth-nose covers consistently.
We are thus following the requirements of the Corona Protection Ordinance and the recommendations of the Robert Koch Institute for responsible operation.
Management day accesses Messe Düsseldorf limits the number of daily visitors in accordance with the specifications of the annex "Hygiene and infection protection standards" to the CoronaSchVO NRW.

In the run-up to the events, the following groups of people must register online to gain access to the grounds: • Employees of the exhibitors • Service providers of the exhibitors • Visitors • Employees of MD service providers • Journalists (via separate online press accreditation)
Distribution of persons The distribution of people in the halls and the observance of the minimum distance of 1,5 m is ensured by existing video systems as well as increased personnel deployment.

Turnstiles • Distance markings • Mouth and nose cover for staff
